The Tooheys New Crew, led by rugby league champion Paul ‘The Chief’ Harragon, will be joined by former Origin legends David Peachey and Paul Sironen to help renovate the Lennox Head community clubhouse.

The Tooheys New Crew will be in Lennox Head to renovate the upper level of the Lennox Head Combined Sports Association clubhouse from Wednesday 6 to Saturday 9 November 2013. The Tooheys New Crew, led by Paul Harragon, is a team of skilled professional tradies working with NSW communities to complete local building projects.

The Tooheys New Crew is calling for locals over the age of 18 to come down to Williams Reserve on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 November to help finish the renovations in time for a game of social cricket with the local community and the Lennox Head Cricket Club.

Since the clubhouse was built back in 1988, it was envisaged that it would also occupy a second story. Through years of community fundraising and grants from the Ballina Shire Council, the state government, the Lennox Head Golden Oldies Rugby Union Club and hours of voluntary work from the Trojans, the club was able to build the second level in 2010 and extend the ground floor in 2013, but could not complete the renovations.

In 2013, the Ballina Shire Council gave approval for the second level to be used as a proper clubhouse and not just a ‘covered viewing platform’. So now the Tooheys New Crew will work with the local community to transform the second level into a space that can be utilised by all sporting clubs to hold meetings and display sacred memorabilia from all codes.

The Tooheys New Crew will also install a new bar upstairs and give the area a facelift by installing windows and flooring, and update the decor with new furniture and a lick of paint.

‘The Tooheys New Crew is all about celebrating mateship by encouraging the community to band together and make a difference,’ says Paul. ‘It’s also a great excuse to get together and have a good time.

‘What we have achieved so far – turning a 1980s amenities block into being nearly a formidable clubhouse facility – is quite amazing,’ says club secretary John Bungate. ‘With the Tooheys New Crew on board, given that we are out of funds, will see a vision dreamt up by Lennox Head sporting folk in the 80s come to fruition.’

On Friday November 8, locals over 18 years of age are also encouraged to come down to the Australian Hotel, Slipway Hotel, Shaws Bay Hotel and the Lennox Point Hotel to meet the Chief and Origin legends Paul Sironen and David Peachey, who will be shouting a few beers for those who’ve assisted with the renovations (times listed below).

The community is also invited to attend the official handover of the new and improved clubhouse at 1pm on Saturday November 9 at Williams Reserve.

This will be the 33rd project the Tooheys New Crew has built with NSW communities, with more than $2 million invested since its inception in 2010. For more information on the Tooheys New Crew visit www.tooheysnew.com.
