Two men were hospitalised after sideswiping five parked cars at Tweed Heads South yesterday afternoon, following a police attempt to stop their vehicle.
Tweed-Byron duty officer Inspector Collins told Echonetdaily that the car was ‘observed to be swerving so [police] intended to stop it for a roadside breath test’.
She said that ‘technically there wasn’t a police pursuit but, because the vehicle kept travelling at speed, it then crashed’.
Police located the car after it entered a carpark on Greenway Drive and sideswiped five other vehicles.
The passenger suffered minor injuries and was given a court attendance notice after treatment in hospital and police are waiting for the driver to be released from hospital before he is charged, Insp Collins said.
She added the man’s injuries ‘don’t appear to be serious’.
Police are still investigating whether vehicle was stolen.
