Police are appealing for public assistance after a home invasion at Ocean Shores in the early hours of yesterday morning.

At about 4.20am, a 48-year-old man was woken by someone knocking on the door of his Warranbool Road home.

The 48-year-old opened the door and came face to face with a young man.

While they were talking, another two men approached the door and smashed it with a rock and piece of wood.

The three men entered the man’s house and demanded cash but left soon after empty handed.

The 48-year-old man was not injured as a result of the incident.

Police from Tweed-Byron Local Area Command have established a crime scene and investigators would like to speak to the three men.

One was only described as 17 to 18-years-old, wearing a light coloured shirt, black pants and a black cap. The other men were described only as wearing black hoodies.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen any suspicious behaviour or vehicles near the intersection of Warranbool and Rajah Road at the time to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Maybe it’s time to realise the Police do not have a legal responsibility to protect you. A home invasion is only a few degrees away from rape; and invasions have a way of going very badly for the victims. In this case, the homeowner is very lucky not to be in hospital intensive care…or dead.

Sadly, the only viable deterrence besides living in a fortress or having your own private security detail are ‘tools for personal protection’…

We used to call them shotguns and stuff until John Howard and then the Greens enacted the Revisionist History Campaign that Australia never had a ‘Gun Culture’ and firearms are unnecessary in a civilised society.

Because ‘Home Invasion’ encompasses several simultaneous crimes (burglary, robbery, rape, murder, trespass, kidnap, etc) there are no hard statistics to track. So to try to do a fair & balanced assessment of this social blight, one can only look at overall crime figures in the requisite categories. The statistics below are from a very reliable source and are reported up until 2007. From 2007 to present Au assaults are up 200%- Armed Robbery up 20%-Sexual assaults up 51% since 1995. Firearms homicides up 181% in Victoria.

So, from 1995 thru 2007, overall, Australia’s violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.

At the same time,in the gun ridden U.S. violent crime decreased 31.8 percent: rape dropped 19.2 percent; robbery decreased 33.2 percent; aggravated assault dropped 32.2 percent.

Australian women are now raped over three times as often as American women. Seems the 1/2 Billion Dollar Au firearms ban really helped.

Knowing a victim cannot protect themselves is like an engraved invitation for violent crime.

When the cops find these punks they can send them to charm school with a slap on the wrist, and the punks can thank Johnny Boy they’re still alive because of his imposing draconian laws on law abiding, firearms owning citizens…err..subjects.

  2. Marcus, are you kidding! Guns are never the answer. The police need to step-up and concentrate on real crimes instead of harassing innocent motorists in revenue raising exercises.

  3. Wow, Marcus Green. You are a dangerous piece of work. You are in the wrong country my friend. The NRA would love to have ya’ so head to the good old USA, then shoot em up. Anybody who looks sideways at you – BANG!! Fair enough, according to Marcus. Sleep with a gun under your pillow, live in fear and save your self with the gun, the almighty gun! Sick, Marcus, sick.

  4. Well is he a dangerous piece of work? I don’t think so. It would seem that we came from an environment of no gun control (except pistols) you could have anything you desired yes even assault rifles. I can appreciate Marcus’ feeling on the matter quite easily, I don’t really think he needs you 2 jumping on his case with a holier than thou attitude………………….
