Elizabeth Kirk, of the 1st Chinderah Scouts, is one proud young Scout.

Richmond MP Justine Elliot last week presented Elizabeth with the Australian Scout Medallion at her scout troop’s Christmas function.

Elizabeth is the first Scout from the Tweed region to have received the prestigious medallion.

To earn the medallion, a Scout must complete the Adventurer Level Cord.

Elizabeth achieved this by organising a 42km hike over two days.

The Scout must also complete at least 10 hours of community service, be of good character, have attended a Scout leadership course, and undertaken a leadership project.

On achieving this, Elizabeth was awarded the medallion, together with a badge and a certificate issued by the state governor.

Mrs Elliot said ‘it was an honour to be invited to present this important medallion to Elizabeth.

‘It reflects Elizabeth’s long-term commitment to the Scout movement, its ideals and values.

‘It was a privilege to also catch up with Elizabeth’s parents Owen and Bridget Kirk who were beaming with pride at their daughter’s achievements,’ Mrs Elliot said.

She said anyone interested in joining the 1st Chinderah Scouts can contact David Hutchinson on 0755 233 874.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
