comanchero-coloursQueensland police say they’ve nabbed the national president of the Comanchero bikie gang at Coolangatta airport.

He is accused of threatening to kill a police officer on the Gold Coast in December 2012.

A 29-year-old man from New South Wales was charged with making threats after he was arrested by police as he arrived at Coolangatta airport on Monday afternoon.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith said: ‘The arrest sends a message to gang members that unlawful actions will not be tolerated and enforcement action will be taken at every opportunity, regardless as to where they reside.’

The man is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Hogwash… If unlawful actions were not tolerated in qld the entire parliament would already be in jail ….and so would three quarters of the police force

  2. Unlawful actions ? The Bjelke Petersen Government would have to take line honours for that wouldn’t it . Bikers pail in comparison . The current Newman Government dumping thousands of tons of dredge tailings in the Great Barrier reef National Park because thats the cheapest option for those dumping it . They would have to rate very highly too wouldn’t they ? The biggest coal port in the world , how many tankers a day will that be ? All to suit Gina and Clive . Not to mention the impact on Global warming burning all that coal will have . Crooks ( Government ) that can make their own laws , now thats scary .

  3. Laws of this nature, while popular at the time, easily become the thin edge of the wedge which ultimately leads to a “police state”. Do these laws have a “sunset clause” (automatic repeal process) ? What attitudes toward the general community are generated within “police culture” ? Will protesting environmentalists be the next target ? Or board members of companies which omit to donate to the LNP ?

  4. Civil liberties do not extend to violent organized crime. They are conditional on being civil and making positive social contributions, I would have thought. Should Nazis have been awarded civil liberties?

If they do, then tell that to the ice-addicted teens (those still living) who are the consumers of their drug-dealings, or the brain damaged youths who are the victims of their beatings. Why give any credence to such an anti-social group of pure moronic criminals. There is nothing ‘rebellious’ about a bikie. They are pure dumb thugs. Wake up!

  5. And that’s why there’s Campbell Newman – For you, Dave and your fear-induced generalisations that only expose your naiivety. Wake up yourself, mate. Bikies are just the scapegoat to introduce the laws so police have more “powers” to serve & protect our money-loving politicians.
