Byron Bay’s world champion surfer Kieren Perrow exited the ranks of professional surfing in style last night surrounded by family and friends at the Great Northern Hotel.
Kieren had always planned to wind up his career at the end of last year’s ASP (Australian Surfing Professionals) championships – but that was not to be. A freak wave dislocated his shoulder during round 1 of the Billabong Pipe Masters, seeing him end the last heat of his career in agonising pain.
It was an ironic finish, given that he had grabbed a world title victory at the Pipe Masters two years earlier.
But all that was behind him last night as Kieren celebrated his new appointment as ASP commissioner.
