I would like to sound a cautionary consumer note to any residents considering pre-paying for any gym/fitness services.
While it is never wise to pre-pay for such services (there are scores of sorry tales of gyms which have gone belly up leaving all high and dry) some people are being offered the option to pay upfront more than $1000 per year for some of these services – this could end in tears.
If any such business had cut hours, retrenched staff and scaled back/eliminated services, hiked fees massively and was showing no sign of further investment in the business, then this should sound an alarm. It is not reflective of a business with an eye to a long-term future. Should this business go into receivership or come to the end of its lease and have ‘to move’ then those who have paid up in advance could be left empty handed. Buyer beware.
