Club Championship News: In the Final of the Men’s Open Fours, Vic Lewis, Ross Julius, Trevor Hills, Peter Murphy will play Bob Raeburn, John Watson, John Reardon, Paul Watson. The Final will be played on a date to be advised

Super Challenge: In Round 5 played on February 22, Section 4 Men defeated Logan City, winning on all five rinks. The women won 1 rink and lost the other and unfortunately lost the overall by 2 shots to Logan City. The atmosphere was electric in the Section 3 match against Kallangur as the two pairs games were both tied going into the last end. Unfortunately Kallangur managed to win both games to win the match 3 rinks – 2. In Round 6 Section 3 play Stafford at home at 11.00am on Saturday March 1 and Section 4 will play Russell Island on Russell Island at a date to be advised.

Tweed Valley Shield: In Round 7, A Division defeated Coolangatta to score 7 – 0 while B Division went down 2 – 5. Both divisions are well in the frame. Next week will be played at Pottsville and Kingscliff will meet Pottsville.

District Events: In the Open Triples, Ken Banks, Greg Barrack and Ian Taylor had wins in the morning and afternoon. Russell McLeay, Damon Crompton and Michael Turner won their game in the afternoon while Ian Turnbull, Ross Julius and Trevor Hills went down to the team from Ocean Shores. The two Kingscliff teams will now meet in the Semi-final next Sunday morning. Unfortunately, all teams in the Over 60s were knocked out last Sunday. Nominations for the District Pairs are now open.

Kingscliff Women

The Kingfisher 2 bowl triples tournament was held Monday, February 17 with 34 teams taking part. First place winners were Cudgen team Fay Turner, Liz Fleming and June Witherspoon with 2 wins and a margin of 24 shots. The teams placing second and third both had 2 wins and a margin of 18. A count back on ends with a difference of 1 put Dorothy Greenwell, Robyn Fuller and Brenda Jack of Kingscliff in second place and Laurel Poole, Di Jones and Sandra Akers, a composite Kingscliff/Tugun team in third place. Two teams tied for fourth place with two wins and a margin of 12. A count back on ends and shots up could not separate them so the two teams split the prize money. The two teams were Catrina Moir, George Moore and Marie Comerford of Pottsville and Karen Gallard, Glenys Johnson and Barbara Sprengall of Ocean Shores. Round 1 winners were Rose Wainwright, Sharon Thomas and Heather Robb of Mullumbimby with a margin of 17. Round 2 winners were Fran Field, Trish Pollard and Coral Withers of Pottsville with a margin of 10. Please note: The Kingscliff Hibiscus Gala Triples has been rescheduled from the July date to Wed. Sept. 10.

The first round of the Cross Border Shield was held Monday, February 10 with games scheduled for Mondays following. This competition is for bowlers at Division/ Grade 4 level and below who have not won in 2013 at that level. It is a wonderful opportunity for bowlers, especially new bowlers, to experience bowls at different clubs. The clubs in the completion include South Tweed, Tweed Heads, Cabarita, Coolangatta and Tugun as well as Kingscliff. Good luck and good bowling to those taking part. We are sure all participants will benefit from the experience.

Monday February 17: Tweed Valley Shield – Round 5 at Coolangatta B.C. was against Tweed Heads. A Division went down to the opposition overall, but are still sitting fourth on the points ladder. B Division had a nice win and are in third placing on the leader board. Keep it up, fellas. Round 7 will be at Pottsville against Kingscliff 3 March. Good bowling guys.

Wednesday February 19: Social Bowls – Will Balsch, Jerry Allen and Alan Meighan got together to take home the winning stakes today. Runners up were the mighty Laurence Swift, Ronald George Parker and Robert Nathan. Well done, boys. Saturday February 22: John Buckley, Ivor Sullivan and Ray Chandler teamed up to win the top money today. Runners up were Mark Chapple ad Harry Ash.

Thursday February 20: Social Bowls – Today was a special Fund Raiser for the Tweed Coast Rural Fire Brigade in appreciation of their selfless volunteer fire fighting in South East NSW late last year. The Women’s Club is proud to announce that we were able to raise $358 today, which will to towards the firies being able to replace badly needed new communication equipment. President Catriona would like to thank members for their generosity.

Our morning games consisted of the usual social bowls as well as club championship pairs. The days raffles were won by somebody anonymous (who very graciously donated her prize to the firies) and Pat Bryant with Catriona Moir being the lucky numbers winner. Judy Baxter collected the lucky bowler prize. Our champion Tinger Linger is back in form. Way to go, Janet A. All cash prizes today were donated to our firies Fund Raiser. Thanks again, girls.
