Tweed Seagulls Little Athletics

Once again Tweed Seagulls Little Athletics Club have seen more excellent records being broken. The latest records being set by our athletes include:

Keuper Feehan in the U16 Girls 200m hurdles. Keuper set a new club record of 33.12 in week 12, breaking the old record of 33.34 held since 2009.

Reece Madden from the U11 Boys 1100m race walk, set a new club record of 6:08.90 in week 12, breaking the old record of 6:25.68 held since 2007. In week 15, Reece broke his new record again, setting a new record time of 5:59.00.

James Mellor from the U8 Boys, broke another record this season in the High Jump event, clearing a height of 1.08m, breaking the previous record of 1.07m, which had also been held since 2007.

In the Nordic Sport Junior Carnival & Senior Pentathlon, held on March 2 in Brisbane, Matthew Bollard from the U9 Boys division, broke the Queensland Athletics record in the 200m sprint, setting a new record time of 29.64.

Kingscliff Men

March 10

Super Challenge: In the final round played on March 8, Section 4 Men defeated Wellington Point 5 nil to win their section. The women split the rinks but won overall to finish in seventh place. Section 3 had the bye and finished in fifth place. The play offs in Section 4 will be played at Kingscliff on March 22. Kingscliff will play the winner of Paradise Point v Condong.

Tweed Valley Shield: After Round 7, A Division was in first place and B Division was in second place. In Round 8, A Division defeated South Tweed 7 – 0 and B Division drew 3.5 with South Tweed. Round 9 will be played at Kingscliff on March 23 and Kingscliff will play Tweed Heads.

Monday March 3: The Tweed Valley Shield Round 7 was conducted at Pottsville B.C. Potty guys were matched against the Kingscliff side. A Division was defeated but the B Division boys overtook Kingscliff for a nice win. Well done, chaps. A Division is still holding fourth place on the leader board while B Division is now in fifth place. Round 9 will be at Kingscliff with our guys facing off against Coolangatta. Good bowling, boys.

 

Wednesday March 5: Social Bowls: Peter Field, Alan Margan and Phil Bennett teamed up to take out the winners prize while Ray Daunt was joined by visitors A. Denhart and J. Dower (Helensvale) to collect the runners-up money. Saturday 8 March: Doug Moir and Ken McInnes were the lucky winners today with Jason Raison and Ron Appleton taking home the runners-up loot. Well done, fellas.

 

Saturday March 8: Club Championship Triples: Brian ‘Polly’ Pollard, Phil Bennett and Luke Wade had their work cut out in a thriller of a semi-final against Bert Moore, Bruno Palmer and Damien Sparkes. Coming into the last end, the teams were even stevens on 22 shots each. However, team Wade were able to take the game scoring the all important one shot needed to clinch victory 23-22. Congrats to Luke and his team. Club Championship Pairs: The Bennett boys, Mark and Alan teamed up to defeat Gary Roots and Jim Banks 22-10.

*** Australian Advanced Accredited Coach, James Laverty, will be conducting two free clinics on Thursdays April 3 and 10 at Cabarita Beach BC especially for these bowlers. The aim of these clinics is to assist armed bowlers who want to improve their technique and enjoy the sport they love. With the 2014 Pennant Season set to commence Saturday 5 April, Clubs have been busy getting championships completed. Mullumbimby Club Fours final was a very close game with Sam Abraham, Simon Johnston, Murray Johnston and Darrin Blake taking the title with a 16-12 win against Rowan Fenwick, Jeffrey Morgan, Paul Thompson and Terry Fenwick. Up at Cabarita, there was another close encounter of the bowling kind in the Club Fours final which saw Kevin Evans, Barry White, Ken ‘Woody’ Woodward and Barry Henry bring home the bacon with a 16-12 win against Graham Lake, David Crow, Barry Sheppard and Surg Brecard. Club Pairs around the district are also under way around the District also. Brunswick Heads’ Jeff Winter and John Anderson in a hard fought final defeated Mat Masula and Gary Rendell. Congrats guys on your very exciting games.

 

If you are looking to make some good $$$’s in the near future, Kingscliff B.C. has a couple of great money Competitions on the board in April; Monday 14 Artie Booth 3 bowl pairs and Easter Saturday 19 April 2 bowl triples. Both comps are offering quite considerable prize money.
