As a One Nation member/supporter/candidate I must confess I am tempted to say ‘I told you so’ upon the release of the Liberal-National Party coalition’s first budget.

I was manning a polling booth in the last election and it was distressing to see people lined up to vote clutching major party how to vote flyers with that knowing, smug look in their eyes.

The same major parties that have sold off any national asset worth having, who have handed our industry and jobs over to foreign shores and got us involved in foreign wars.

The same parties who have racked up huge amounts of debt and are now squeezing all they can out of the ill, the elderly, school leavers and students, in ‘the national interest’.

One Nation was the one party that saw this coming and was ridiculed.

What will it take to wake up a sleeping people?

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
