Getting the right stuff in your bins in the Tweed

Tweed Council is asking residents to be more careful with what waste they put in which bin – a surprising amount of the area's refuse, both recycling and landfill, ends up in the wrong receptacle.

Remembering and Healing – the Northern Rivers peace effort

The community of Lismore are invited to join events organised by the Remembering and Healing (RaH) group over the weekend encompassing ANZAC Day.

Federal Page MP Kevin Hogan (Nationals) is refusing to answer questions from The Echo on how his government’s budget will affect his constituents.

The electorate of Page covers Lismore, Ballina, Iluka, Casino and Grafton.

Mr Hogan’s media representative Peter Weekes said, ‘Kevin is happy to answer any questions from media covering the Page electorate, but as your readers are not in Page, it would be best if you direct these questions to Mr Hockey’s office, or Matthew Fraser who stood as the Nationals’ candidate in Richmond’.

We pointed out that Echonetdaily covers four shires, including his electorate.

Mr Hogan’s budget press release last week was entitled ‘Strengthening higher education for students in Page’.

The federal budget outlined $80 million worth of cuts to state health and education funding over the coming decade.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. I live in the electorate of Page. I read Echonetdaily. Echonetdaily’s covers many stories from the Page electorate not the least of which was the ‘official opening’ of the restored Bellman Hangar and unveiling of the F-111 at the State Heritage Listed Evans Head Memorial Aerodrome at which Mr Hogan was a guest.

I would like to hear from Kevin answers to questions put to him by the paper.

The response from Kevin’s media bloke Peter is disappointing, some might say ‘weak’, and does not help Kevin’s credibility!

Pollies must be accountable to their constituents and what better way than through answers to questions put to them by the media. 8

Please publish the questions you’ve put to my local member. I would like to see what’s being avoided.

    Thank you

  2. This is a non-story. Sure, it annoyed you when he didnt answer your question, but was it worth a whole article?!

  3. What the…………?
Just in case some who’re not in Page may read it? or are you waiting for ltd news to spin it for you? Well, if you are happy for the Pagerati to hear what you say, why are you not saying it? Here is a page question: Why is there a tax cut only for business only? Why a levy? Why not make it permanent?
Is the gutting of CSIRO and the new Future Medical Research linked? Ie is the $20 billion to spend on big pharma? They are the LNP corporate mates, right?

Not a word on climate change? Why not?

$80 billion of hospital and school cuts slipped through: who benefits?

Very strange behaviour for our representative MP.

BTW This is a copy of my email to Mr Hogan

  4. Good luck getting an email from Hogan. This might be the post-CSG breaking point for the anti-national Nationals. Another broken political brand … that has contempt for the integrity of political processes and our hard won democracy. Don’t assume we are all chumps Mr Hogan, wherever you are hiding in embarrassment.

  5. I live in the Page electorate (Federal) and receive the Echo weekly at my door. What a disgrace. Either 1) Mr Hogan’s media rep is incompetent and doesn’t know his/her job and media distribution in the electorate, 2) He/she is covering for Mr Hogan, 3) Mr Hogan is embarrassed by the Budget or 3) Mr Hogan supports the budget but doesn’t have the courage to face his electorate.
