Early morning starts are not a usual routine for chefs at the Ballina RSL Club. March was an exception when Chef Halie Welsh rallied some staff and friends together to take part in Ian Thorpe’s Laps For Life charity. A team of ten hit the Ballina Pool at 7am every day during March to raise funds For ReachOut’s Laps For Life challenge. 

Police are appealing for information following an aggravated armed robbery at Ocean Shores Tavern yesterday evening.

About 9.30pm (Sunday June 1), a man armed with a machete forced entry into Ocean Shores Tavern on Rajah Road.

The man threatened two staff members with the weapon and tied them up, before fleeing the location with cash.

No one was injured during the incident.

A spokesperson for the Tavern management told Echonetdaily that staff were receiving counselling following the incident and the pub would be open as normal from today.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command launched an investigation and were joined by police from the Dog Unit in an extensive search of the surrounding area

But the man has yet to be found.

He is described as being about 185cm tall, solidly built and with a dark complexion.

The manwas last seen wearing a dark-coloured hooded jumper, dark track pants with white stripes down the sides and a black bandana across his face.

Anyone who knows the man’s identity or has any information that could assist police is urged to come forward.
