A 33-year-old man from Tweed Heads and two Sydney men have been arrested and charged over the 2011 shooting murder of a Crown witness in a drug smuggling investigation.

Gemahl Maika, 38, who was a Crown witness in a police investigation into a multi-million dollar cocaine syndicate, was found dead on the front lawn of his Glen Alpine home on the evening of April 6, 2011. He had sustained a number of gunshot wounds.

Homicide detectives from Strike Force Hedgegrow, which has been investigating the killing, arrested three men following operations in Wiley Park, Peakhurst and the Sydney CBD late yesterday morning (Wednesday July 2).

A 33-year-old man from Tweed Heads (who was arrested in Wiley Park) and a 29-year-old man from Peakhurst, have been charged with murder.

The 29-year-old and a 46-year-old man from Sydney were charged with accessory before the fact to murder.

All three have been refused bail and are expected to appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Thursday July 3).

The investigation by Strike Force Hedgegrow continues and more arrests are expected.
