Police are appealing for witnesses to a head-on collision near Casino on Friday in which a man was killed and others injured.
A 28-year-old man driving a ute involved in the crash on the Bruxner Highway at Piora near Casino remains in critical condition in Lismore Base Hospital.
A man believed to be aged in his 50s driving a sedan died at the scene.
A three-year-old girl in the back seat was badly injured but is now in a stable condition at the hospital, while the front passenger, a 39-year-old woman, was reported to be in a serious, but stable, condition.
Police say a 21-year-old man who was the front passenger in the ute suffered minor injuries and later treated at Lismore hospital.
Police said they received reports the ute had overtaken several vehicles prior to the crash.

The man’s death brings the road toll in the northern rivers for 2014 to 25.

Police are investigating a head-on smash between two cars in Piora near Casino on Friday in which a man died and several others were injured, including a three-year-old girl.
About 2.45pm (Friday), emergency services were called to Bruxner Highway, about 1km west of Dyraaba Road, Piora, after reports two cars had collided.
On arrival, officers from Richmond Local Area Command found a Holden Colorado utility and Holden Commodore sedan had collided head on.
The driver of the sedan, a man believed to be aged in his 50s, died at the scene.
The front passenger, a 39-year-old woman, was trapped for a short time before being airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital and is in a serious but stable condition.
A three-year-old girl in the rear of the sedan was airlifted to the Gold Coast Hospital and is in a stable condition.
The driver of the utility, a 28-year-old man, was taken to Lismore Base Hospital and is in a critical condition.
The front passenger of the utility, a 21-year-old man, was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
Officers from the North Coast Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the collision and would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events that lead up to it.
The Bruxner Highway was closed in both directions for about six hours, but has since re-opened.

Police and rescue crews are at the scene of a car crash on the Bruxner Highway west of Casino where one man has died and a badly injured woman remains trapped in the wreckage.
It’s reported that another three people, including a three-year old girl, suffered minor injuries in the accident around 3pm at Piora.
Several ambulances and a medical rescue helicopter from the Gold Coast are at the scene.
An Ambulance NSW spokeswoman told APN Media that the young girl suffered head injuries, a 28-year-old man had chest pain, and a 21-year-old man had abdominal pain.
