‘Peace in our council’, enthuses Mick Malloy (Praise Paul, Simon, Byron Shire Echo 7/10).

Now that the nasty, combative mob that attempted to hold the line on unrestrained development have departed the field the morning teas are much more pleasant.

The staff are relaxed and comfortable and able to get on with running the show confident in the knowledge they will get little scrutiny from the new elected majority.

Now that Rose Wanchap has regained her comfort zone and joined with Sol and the three blind mice there will be no development that does not appeal and all that mysterious money spent on electing the fab four will start to pay off.

Pity the Ewingsdale residents denied reasonable consultation on a massive development in their backyard and the koalas as their protection is subverted not to mention the facilitation of a future rail corridor subdivision.

As long as the Belongil money gets its rocks and West Byron boosts the real estate market, all will be well in the best of all possible worlds as the Malloy glasnost flows over the shire.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. I have often wondered the same as Tom. Sol Ibrahim always came across pre election as a smiling political fraud ultimately with a conservative agenda but he disguised it assisted by Byron United [ie Byron Chamber of Commerce] who have been itching for the return of council to the old pro development heydays of the early 90’s and it was this disguising just like with Rose Wanchap that has misled the voters of Byron Shire. The Greens have now made another of their classical ill informed choices of who to put on their ticket..The Greens should have not had Rose on their ticket and chosen independent/committed/consistent Karin Kolbe for council with their preferences.
No sour grapes here just statement of fact…. She was/is decent and consistent and would never have betrayed voters like Rose has.. The conservatives must be gloating and really getting on with business hey? the business of tearing away progressive forward thinking strategic planning.
Party politics has failed us in Byron Shire except that at least we still have a decent Greens Mayor but now with diminishing[ at least for now] clout and influence.
