An annual  fundraiser for breast-cancer patients on the north coast next Saturday (18 October), which began as a house party for 20 friends seven years ago, is being supported by Richmond MP Justine Elliot.

The ‘Girls Night In’ event at the Cudgen Leagues Club from 5pm will feature popular comedian Mandy Nolan.

Mrs Elliot said she was honoured to meet with event organiser Kim Telling recently to discuss the issues facing those in the community living with cancer or support those who have cancer.

‘These ladies, Kim Telling, her daughters Taylor and Brittany and best friend Bronte Rowston are inspirational and their voluntary contributions are invaluable,’ the MP said.

This year’s Girls Night In breast-cancer fundraiser is the eight annual event  and has so far raised $69,403.92 since it’s beginnings as a house party of 20 friends in 2007.

A large part of the money raised has been directly used for breast cancer patients in the northern rivers area.

The event can be supported through sponsorship or ticket purchases, call Kim Telling on 0417 769 864.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Just when everything is a political football…put away the football.
Yes, we can beat cancer at Cudgen leagues Club. Join Justine Elliot for a night of fun at a fundraiser for breast cancer.
A night of fun for a fundraiser at Cudgen Leagues Club and don’t rest until cancer in beaten.
Not a night to be crabby. Put on you best face, lace up the skirt and shirt join the fun and take a step out and step up to a great night. Mandy Nolan will lead the mirth and the fun as she peels off a few pearls of jokes to whirl away the night.
Yes, we can beat cancer. Yes we can.

  2. That’s great! In Ballina a group of women called “Breast Friends” raise money for local women with breast cancer and donate a considerable sum to the Ballina Breast Cancer Support Group” which supports women to pay for things like car registration, electricity bills, MRIs, PET scans, petrol, bras, etc. As well as emotional support, financial support is often needed.
