Results of this year’s economic impact study for Yelgun’s North Byron Parklands, which hosts Splendour and Falls festivals, have been released.
Parklands media spokesperson Viv Fantin says the report was prepared by RPS Australia East and revealed that the two events generated $41.4 million in economic output for the region, with Byron Shire accounting for $24.1 million of this economic output.
‘The events combined generated 22,900 room-night stays in Byron Shire accommodation and 6,125 room nights in other parts of northern NSW (not including camping on- site at Parklands).’
308 jobs created
Ms Fantin said that importantly, 308 equivalent full-time (EFT) jobs were created. ‘Of these positions created, Byron Shire residents filled 99 EFT jobs while an additional 34 positions were filled by northern rivers residents.
Parklands management also claims over $43,000 has been provided to community organisations this year and so far a total of $400,000 has been donated overall.
Really. Exactly who is RPS Australia East ? Certainly their website demonstrates no economic or accountancy expertise. Splendor must really think this is a stupid community with these kinds of claimed financial inputs – with no cost of the loss of amenity to locals or the noise, the illegal parking, dead wildlife, mountains of rubbish.
