I’ve lived in Byron for 40 years and as I was growing up we didn’t have the opportunities that large scale festivals offer rural towns. I had to leave Byron to further my career in Brisbane because Byron didn’t have much to offer.
In the last twenty years I returned to the shire and now that I’m older and with a family to care for I can see how beneficial Splendour, Falls and Blues are for my whole family and the whole region.
The economic study I read in last week’s paper puts to rest the concerns that these festivals take business away from our town, rather the study shows how Splendour and Falls are helping generate serious income for the local community, local business and the region at large.
