Rebuilding communities from Lennox and Evans Head to Coraki and Woodburn

Dear Rose: In last week’s Byron Echo you took out a full page ad to justify your moral right to remain on Council after breaking the trust of the majority of the community who voted for you, longterm ratepayers who treasure our sensitive ecosystem, our threatened infrastructure and our quality of life in general.

It is commonly believed only 31 residents voted for you with full knowledge you would be backing their pro business and property development agendas.

You have turned a deaf ear to the larger community and continue to quote only the opinions and research of those with a vested interest in financial gain.

If you really believe that a world winning eco-suburb can be built on an acid sulfate drainage swamp and koala corridor, where are the provisions and plans laid out to ensure the future flow of movement for people and cars, adequate drainage and the avoidance of flash flooding in the wet season??

You must be aware that any more concrete slabs poured on the broad drainage swamp that is west Byron will result in serious and constant future flooding and the poisoning of our waterways?

Unless roads, drainage and wildlife corridors are addressed first and foremost, only doom and gloom lie ahead for the entire community, including our entrepreneurs and business people.

Please Rose, for everyone’s sake, including your 31 supporters, desist and resign.

Byron Bay deserves the best in future planning with all models and all voices heard and considered, not just those who are either confused or simply don’t care about shared visions and majority interests.

Jan Hackett, Byron Bay

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online.
