Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. 1. Residents were evacuating from Pottsville late last night as fires burned walls of trees near houses in Seabreeze Estate. There was no information available – 000 and police were reporting there were no fires, just controlled back burns. My niece watered her house and left with her young child and animals at about 3am because smoke was thick, her done couldn’t breathe and fires and embers were close to her house. It’s odd that there has been no timely and accurate information on this on official sites

    • I woke up 2.45 am couldn’t go to sleep, can see the rising glowing flame under thick smoke,I live in coast rd, I feel for poor people close to fire last night very bad smoke even cover the beach side, our living room full on smoke can smell rubber burn and thought its lit up houses, try to look in net came up about in USA pottsville fire, it make panic, too many bad thought run thrue brain cause can’t find rigt info, it’s not right saying nothing!! People need to know what going on !!

  2. Yes Rick, we called 000 from 27 Coronation Avenue and were told that “Yes, we’ve been receiving a lot of calls”, but no instruction. My partner awoke at 12.50am to the smell of smoke and when we walked out the front door the sky was ablaze in a thick red smoke. Initially there were a number of close spot fires 5 houses down in the open land. We got buckets of water but came back to many many more. We couldn’t find any information on the local radio or the abc and so watered down our house, packed the car quickly and left as well.
