Ben Winch, Ocean Shores

It’s hard to know what to say to the people who destroyed a section of the dunes at South Golden Beach with axe, saw and spraycan (painting the initials ‘S.G.B.’ plus some four-letter words on what trees they left standing).

Knowing that rebellion feeds on adversity, I won’t get angry. Instead I feel sorry, for the many people who will miss what was one of the only cool, grassy spots along that stretch of beach, but most of all for you.

If you think there’s pride in this, there’s not. If you think it makes you cool or tough, think again. It’s the opposite of the warrior spirit, which is to defend and to protect, not to destroy.

My advice? Get out of Ocean Shores. If life here has made you sink this low there’s no point in staying. Be a man. Take courage. Move on.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Yeah Ben it’s terrible. We at SGB see these trashed dunal places often. Local 12, 13, 14 year olds and up come to drink and drug. The damage to the trees on the coast in Billi Nature Reserve are prob part of their destruction as i heard about a young doof that was going to be there but fortunately the police got there first. Two days later the young people are at the north wall partying! Thats where the few remaining Beach Stone Kurlews (spelling!) live and Pied Oyster Catchers.

This is a parenting problem. Where are your children people?? Do u really want them older people plying them with drink and drugs in an isolated place?

I suppose these kids have watched how the festival goers trash the Yelgun wildlife corridor (festival site) and think that its OK. After all their parents prob support these festivals!

    Wake up people/ parents!
