After being selected at the State Championships last year and competing in trials in Sydney, Cori Hardy has been selected for the U18 women’s NSW Blues Hockey Team to compete at the National Championships in Adelaide early next month.

Cori will have to travel to Sydney every other weekend for training sessions, plus travel to Adelaide for the Championships April 6–17. On top of this, Cori has been selected to play in the State Championships in Newcastle and North Coast Open Girls team in Albury, both in May.

Cori is a member of the NSW Accelerated Athlete Program (AAP), which means she is one of 60 girls in NSW to be selected for specialised training, up to three times a week by NSW coaches, and she travels to Sydney once a term for squad training.

Cori competes for NSW State Athletics in long jump, triple jump, 100m, and both the 100m and 200m hurdles and has been selected to play for Far North Coast Open Girls Touch Football.

Cori loves all sport and is lucky to be naturally gifted in this area. She works at the Lennox Head IGA, attends Byron High School and along with her love of athletics is a keen surfer.

Club Lennox are holding a bowling afternoon to raise money for Cori. It will be held on Saturday March 28 from 3pm.

All money raised will go towards funding the countless trips to train and compete, with the ultimate goal of wearing the green and gold for her country.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
