For 20 years, Byron Youth Service has run programs, courses, events and activities which have acted as an incubator for the area’s youngsters, nurturing talent and life skills. But funding cuts have threatened its very viability and activities, which is why participants put on Spirit of the Bay 2 twilight concert at the weekend to raise much needed funds.

This is yet another sad indictment of what the Abbott / Baird government are doing for the people in outlying areas. They seem to have forgotten us. Our local youth have so little to do in this town and now the government wants to cut funding to the youth service, which is no doubt already struggling for funds to keep going. It’s a disgrace. Good on these kids for trying to make a difference.
