At almost 70 years of age, iconic local activist Benny Zable has after 42 years, left his home base at Nimbin behind and headed off into the wide blue to save other parts of the world.
With just a quick stop at the tent embassy in Canberra, this morning Benny heads over to his other home in New York – some time to ‘Imagine’ a part of his plan.
Best known as his Greed Dozer alias with gas mask and slogans at protests and blockades, local filmmakers Cloudcatcher Media caught a glimpse of Benny out from under activist trappings in an action for peace last December, when on the anniversary of John Lennon’s death, Zable unveiled his replica of the New York Central Park’s Imagine homage to the Beatle in Strawberry Fields.
Zable believes that we need to have memorials for peace as well as memorials for war.
‘There is “Lest We Forget” what war does’, he says. ‘But imagine what a better world we can have’.
