A motorcyclist has been seriously injured after crashing into a guardrail at Murwillumbah yesterday morning.

About 11.30am (Sunday August 16) a group of riders were travelling southeast along Numinbah Road, near Mt Tomewin Road.

Police say a 45-year-old man from Hillcrest, Queensland, failed to negotiate a bend in the road and crashed into a guardrail.

A second rider, a 56-year-old man from Crestmead, also in Queensland, then crashed into the first rider.

The initial rider sustained fractures to his legs and was airlifted by Lifesaver 4 to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The other rider received only minor abrasions.

A crime scene has been established and the scene will be forensically examined.

Investigations are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to these incidents to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/
