Two Casino men will face court after being charged with multiple firearms offences as part of a police operation in northern NSW.

Detectives from Richmond Local Area Command formed Strike Force Mitla last year to investigate the supply of methamphetamine, and the illegal sale of firearms in the Casino area.

Two men, both aged 26, have been arrested and charged with 49 drug and firearm charges in May this year.

They remain in custody after being refused bail.

Following continued investigations by detectives, one of the Casino men was charged last Thursday (6 August) with an additional 24 offences.

They included 12 charges of illegally manufacturing a pistol, seven charge of selling a pistol, three charges of conspiring to sell, one charge of conspiring to sell and a charge of perverting the course of justice.

The man is due to appear in Lismore Local Court on Tuesday, 18 August.

Then on Friday (7 August), the second 26-year-old man, also from Casino, attended Newcastle Police Station and was charged with an additional 23 offences.

They included 12 charges of illegally manufacturing a pistol, seven charges of illegally selling a pistol, three charges of conspiring to sell a pistol, one charge of conspiring to supply a pisol.

The second man is due to appear in Lismore Local Court on Tuesday, 8 September.

The Save Wallum campaign has been named as a finalist in the Nature Conservation Council of NSW Environment Awards 2024. The award ceremony will be held in Sydney tonight, and Save Wallum spokesperson and ecologist James Barrie will be attending with Tegan Kitt, another founding member of the group.
