Bottle-fed babies should not be given formula that is mixed with fluoridated water, according to a warning from the NSW Health Department.

But instead of advertising that warning, and concerns from that too much fluoride is being added to local water supplies, Rous Water is pushing ahead with its fluoridation program.

Just this week, Rous Water announced that fluoride was back on tap in Clunes after teething problems with the dosing equipment.

Ross Water’s technical services director Wayne Franklin said low water flow rates at Clunes had made it difficult to achieve consistent fluoride levels in the water when the plant was first commissioned.

‘The fluoride dosing equipment suppliers have made adjustments to the dosing equipment to allow better mixing of the fluoride and the water supply at low water flows,’ Mr Franklin said.

‘The dosing equipment is being monitored daily to ensure that it is operating satisfactorily.’

Cr Vanessa Ekins, a delegate on Rous Water, told Echonetdaily that Rous Water was failing to acknowledge that other countries had reduced the level of fluoride.

Cr Ekins attempted to move a motion at the last meeting of Rous Water to suspend the fluoridation program but the motion was ruled unlawful by Rous general manager Kyme Lavelle.

Her motion is that ‘Rous Water suspend the addition of fluoride to the regional water supply until the National Health and Medical Research Council has completed the review into reducing fluoride concentrations from 1mg per litre to 0.7mg per litre’.

Cr Ekins has lodged a complaint against the GM, and vowed to move the motion at the next meeting of Rous Water on 21 October.

She will also be moving another motion calling on Rous Water to actively promote the health warnings on the NSW Health website regarding bottle fed babies.

The warning says that bottle fed babies could be subject to dental fluorosis, and therefore ‘making up infant formulae with water that has a low fluoride content is consequently not recommended by the NHMRC (National Health and Medical Research Council).

  1. Actually, the NSW Health reports the fluoride intake this way for infants as:

“the tolerable upper limit guidelines ranging from 0.7 mg/day for infants less than 6 months to 10 mg/day for children >8 years and adults (IOM 1997).”

“Using dietary modelling data they estimated that the suggested upper limits for fluoride dietary intake would generally be exceeded for average weight formula-fed infants and older infants with a mixed diet when drinking water was fluoridated to 1 mg/L.

A smaller proportion of children aged between 2 and 8 years would also exceed the suggested dietary upper limit value. Older children and adults would almost never exceed the suggested dietary limit.”

  2. “Rous Water announced that fluoride was back on tap in Clunes after teething problems with the dosing equipment.”
“Teething problems?” Boom! Boom! Good to see somebody has a sense of humour.

Your captcha picture system remains frustratingly hopeless – especially with many pictures incomprehensible, and thoroughly frustrating to potential comment writers, where anything up to seven or eight attempts are necessary where the selection of multiple images really are “best guess”. Yours is far and out the worst effort at blocking robot responses – totally out of proportion to your, with respect, minnow status compared to most other sites needing to resort to blocking robot access.
Please. Have you actually asked somebody in your office who “doesn’t know the answers” to attempt completing the captcha process.
Again with respect – you ain’t exactly the New York Times with potentially squillions of mischief-making potential writers/pranksters. :>

  3. The FULL quote from the NSW heath site reads ;Making up infant formulae with water that has a low fluoride content is consequently not recommended by the NHMRC (NHMRC 2007), and fluoridated tap water is recommended as safe in a consensus statement. This changes the whole meaning for the quoted “warning”. It is OK to have a debate but not to misquote government webites to back up your view.

  4. I do not give my consent to be ‘dosed’ with this S6 poison.

Do people not understand that Fluoride is a filthy waste product derived from the industrial factory’s of China? Aluminium factories!

It is scrapped off the side of the factory walls, and very cleverly marketed to us as a natural, non intrusive, one size fits all, solution to tooth decay.

I couldn’t believe it myself until I did some research! And I also read that so many countries have now stopped inflicting this S6 neurotoxin on their populations.

Look at the alarming rise in disease since the industrial revolution. Do you know what substance is exceedingly high amongst people suffering with alziemers disease? Aluminium!

We have to move with the times. Newer scientific research has firm evidence that fluoride is a contributor to brain illness and Adhd.

It is devasting for anyone living with thyroid disease and also builds up calcium deposits in the pineal gland. It is a major cause of osteo disorders and bone cancer. Fluoride is drawn into the bone hence causing all the above illness’ and dental fluorosis to boot!

Hello!? It is banned in many countries for a damm good reason. It is dangerous.

Do you know that the administrators of this poison must ‘suit up’ in outfits similar (the same?) as people handling heavy duty poisons like um anthrax….. well of course they must protect themselves as this ‘natural’ substance has a cross and bow on each bag. It IS a poison equally violent and fatal should the staff ‘dosing’ it come into contact. Now that doesn’t sound very natural to me.

We are being fed (forced to eat and drink) lies. Filthy dangerous stinking lies. And I put this to you. Even if fluoride were useful on some level for children aged 2 to 4 years old, would you really want to risk their overall health for a few baby teeth?

Not just your children’s health, but your own health and that of our entire community?

Patients on dialysis must have the fluoride removed for treatment such is the horrendous affect on ones kidneys.

There are too many risks to our health and lets not forget little babies can not have their formula made with fluorinated water.

I haven’t even touched on our human right to ingest or not ingest what each person feels is right for their own bodies.

Forced mass medication is a crime. May I suggest you all have blood tests and other health markers done as doon as possible, and again after a year on fluoride. If need be, with health deterioation, a class action against Rous Water
and the State government may be necessary.

And to finish, I will add that the target group that fluoride en mass on tap is aimed at, no doubt already get plenty of this insane substance via soft drinks and packaged food. All made with tap water with fluoride in it!

  5. “not recommended by the NHMRC” does not translate into this entity stating that “bottle-fed babies should not be given formula mixed with fluoridated water”, as this article falsely claims.

Due to the existing fluoride content of powdered infant formula, the use of fluoridated water to reconstitute it risks mild to very mild dental fluorosis in the developing teeth of the infant. Mild to very mild dental fluorosis is a barely detectable effect which causes no adverse effect on cosmetics, form, function, or health of teeth. As peer-reviewed science has demonstrated mildly fluorosed teeth to be more decay resistant, many consider this effect to not even be undesirable, much less adverse.

As a dentist, knowledgeable about fluoridation, I fed my own infant children powdered infant formula reconstituted exclusively with fluoridated water, then raised them on that fluoridated water. I strongly recommended that they do the same with their own infants and children, which they now do.

The devastating lifetime effects of untreated dental decay, which can be and is prevented by water fluoridation, far outweigh any risk of barely detectable faint white streaks on teeth.

  6. You really do wonder why councillors are so keen to mass medicate ( with fluoride) us when clearly the community is against it.
Is there an incentive of some sort… financial gain somewhere… perhaps bottled water sales.

  7. “Bottle-fed babies should not be given formula that is mixed with fluoridated water, according to a warning from the NSW Health Department”

i I read this article bur cannot find any reference to babys not being bottle fed with tap water from nsw health.

In fact, the fact sheet Water Fluoridation released by NSW Health specifically states “If infant formula is used, it is perfectly safe in Australia to reconstitute it using fluoridated water”

With warnings concerning the health if babies it is important that Echonet lers parents know where information is sourced from. I would like further clarification.

  8. The article states that; ‘Rous Water’ is pushing ahead with its fluoridation program’. I always assumed that water fluoridation is a council directive. If so, is Rous Water part of the council?
I thought they were a private company, maybe receiving some financial subsidy. Since when should ‘Rous Water’ be concerned with the health of our ,and our children’s teeth? Not to mention be in charge of the dosages? I wonder how much and to whom, they are paying for their fluoride.
Also as Mandy mentioned, fluoride calcifies the pineal gland, which is said to be the home of our soul.
Fluoride was used by Hitler and Stalin in their prison camps to keep the inmates docile… Hmm, maybe its not really about our teeth.
And Steven, ‘peer review’ in cases like this might as well be substituted by ‘industry funded’.

  9. The 1st line of this article is false, NSW Health has posted no warning RE: flouride and bottle-fed baby formula. Be careful Echo as this sort of misquoting (and not checking facts) feeds those (such as Rous Water) with the ammunition to squash our freedom
