While Ian Cohen and Pam Ditton (Echo Nov 4) discuss the Green’s plan to reduce atmospheric CO2 levels to less than 350ppm (currently 397.6ppm and rising), billionaire Bill Gates writes that capitalism itself is the actual problem, because ‘the private sector is too selfish and inefficient to produce effective energy alternatives to fossil fuels’ and that ‘without a substantial carbon tax, there’s no incentive for innovators or plant buyers to switch’ away from fossil fuels. Australians voted out a government that had introduced a carbon tax. Since a graph of atmospheric CO2 levels is showing no reduction in the rate of CO2 rise, one might expect man made Global Warming to continue unabated, with a predictable outcome. This year the Earth’s combined Land and Ocean Temperature hit a new record high, source NOAA.
