Carpet baggers are in town

  1. The Lismore City Council banking the developers with an unsecured payment for the infrastructure., with a promise in the future of an unspecified return.

+ 2. Invite investors mums and dads etc to fork out cash for some real estate they have no title to.

+ 3. An Aboriginal elder has threatened court and he is not taking a back step with a win already in his pocket

= Expensive delay, no quick turn around and nothing the mayor can do to stop it. The ratepayers are not going to stand for it when the truth comes out in their rate bill

The developer of course can at anytime spend the money then go into receivership as they often do see Iron Gates as just one example

The moral: Buyer beware

One day the Councillors will stop playing follow the leader and support the community

Al Oshlack, Lismore

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. History repeats itself but we are slow to learn the lessons.

Just prior to the great global collapse of the banking and commercial system engineered by New York and Brussels there was a big public campaign to encourage mum and dad investors to invest their superannuation in the share market.

We know what happened. Superannuation nest eggs devastated and previously comfortable retirees begging on the streets.

    Beware of “Greeks” bearing gifts!

  2. Well said both comments above. We cannot repeat history.. but we should learn from it.
Building houses upon North Lismore Plateau no matter how long it has been in the planning does not make it a good decision.
Besides the fact of “Newton’s Law of Gravity” and Climate Changing increasing extreme weather conditions.. with so many more rooftops collecting rain water.. and Lismore built upon the river flats.. where once the Traditional Owners of this Land who lived in and around this land of plenty with the surrounding hills so Significant for their survival and places for Burials and Cultural Purposes. We should be blessed and honoured to live amongst this and respect and learn and preserve our combined history both Ancient and Modern. This Land also is special as it is home to indigenous flora and fauna such as the internalionally known Koalas. We need to look after and protect their habitat. Especislly the stand of Koala food trees planted upon North Lismore and continue to improve and advance the Koala food corridors as I believe is happening. Lets continue our role as Caretakers of this special Land at our doorstep so rich in Ancient History.
