Three prison inmates have been taken to hospital after a Corrective Services truck rolled onto its side on the Gwydir Highway just before 1.15pm yesterday (Thursday January 28).

The accident about 10km west of Waterview, near Grafton.

Police from Coffs-Clarence Local Area Command, Fire & Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance Paramedics, and Rural Fire Service attended the scene.

The vehicle, which was carrying five people including three prisoners, rolled onto its side.

The three prisoners were trapped inside. Two were released a short time later, with minor injuries. The third was trapped for a period of time before being released. They were all taken to Grafton Hospital.

The driver and escort were not injured.

A crime scene has been established and Crash Investigation Unit will investigate the incident.
