Man dies after car crashes into creek near Uki

A 67-year-old Nimbin man died after the car he was driving lost control on a bend near Uki on Saturday and crashed upside down into a creek, trapping him underwater.

Witnesses to the crash on Kyogle Road around 5.30pm freed the trapped passenger, a 72-year-old woman.

The man, named as Karl Langheinrich, was pulled out unconscious and could not be revived despite attempts at CPR by police and those who saw the crash.

Police were told the driver lost control of the VW Golf on a bend and mounted the kerb before travelling down an embankment and landing upside down in the creek.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for observation.

The two were returning home to Nimbin from  Murwillumbah when the accident happened.

Police from Tweed/Bryon Local Area Command are investigating the crash and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
