A 66-year-old man will appear in court today after he was arrested for alleged sexual offences of two children at Nimbin over the weekend.

Police say that on Saturday, a boy aged 8 and a girl aged 11, befriended a man earlier in the morning when they began playing with his dog.

Later that day the man allegedly indecently and sexually assaulted the children.

The children ran from the man and alerted their parents and the man left the area in his car.

Police attended and an investigation began. Around 5.20pm yesterday (Sunday), police attached to the Ballina Child Abuse Squad arrested the man in Uralba Street, Lismore.

He was taken to Lismore police station and charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault and one count of indecent assault.

The man was refused bail to appear in Lismore Local Court today (Monday).
