As a visitor from Queensland I am impressed by the regions environmental consciousness and activism.
In the May 11, 2016 Echo newspaper I was overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and effort demonstrated by the Knitting Nannas Against Gas.
This is a compliment coming from an oil and gas worker of 30 years.
My Nanna had a sharp eye and always set an example. So with a heavy heart I have to expose that most restaurants in Byron Bay cook with natural gas.

Don, you can rest easy. None of the North Coast has reticulated gas, which means that all of the gas used here is bottled LPG. All gas mined as CSG is used as natural gas.LPG is propane, as opposed to natural gas which is methane.
Martin you are correct Propane is not from CSG which is predominately Methane. Propane is not as environmentally friendly as CSG methane as it’s Carbon Hydrogen ratio is poorer. It is ironic that reticulated gas is far more environmentally friendly than LPG that has to be trucked in.
LPG is derived from Natural gas. Natural gas comprises of C1 to C5, CO2, N2 etc. C3H8, Propane is a by product of natural gas.
A portion of the propane gas would have come from a fracked well. This proportion will increase with time as conventional fields deplete. You guys are terrified of frac chemicals AHHHH. This stuff is cooking your food.
Note it was the protest preventing the drilling of a conventional well which halted gas exploration in northern NSW. ASX MEL 8/4/14 & 16/5/14
