Two police officers have been treated in hospital after being attacked during a house call near Chillingham, yesterday.
About 2.30pm on Sunday (May 22), police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command were called to the home in Zara, following reports of a concern for the welfare of residents.
When police attempted to speak with a man in the home, he allegedly became aggressive towards another occupant in the house.
The man allegedly attacked two officers and a struggle occurred, where the man punched and spat at police.
The man was arrested a short time later and taken into custody.
Two male officers – a senior constable and a constable – were taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for treatment.
The senior constable was treated for a neck injury and the constable for an injury to his hand.
Both were later released following treatment.
A 22-year-old man was also taken to Tweed Heads Hospital and upon his release; charges are expected to be laid.
