Two police officers have been treated in hospital after being attacked during a house call near Chillingham, yesterday.

About 2.30pm on Sunday (May 22), police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command were called to the home in Zara, following reports of a concern for the welfare of residents.

When police attempted to speak with a man in the home, he allegedly became aggressive towards another occupant in the house.

The man allegedly attacked two officers and a struggle occurred, where the man punched and spat at police.

The man was arrested a short time later and taken into custody.

Two male officers – a senior constable and a constable – were taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for treatment.

The senior constable was treated for a neck injury and the constable for an injury to his hand.

Both were later released following treatment.

A 22-year-old man was also taken to Tweed Heads Hospital and upon his release; charges are expected to be laid.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page.
