Carole Gamble, Mullumbimby Creek

Having listened to a number of politicians spitting out diatribe and  pre-scripted speeches  over past weeks it was an absolute joy to attend the Green’s function in Murwillumbah at The Regent last night.

Bob Brown was the guest speaker and I was reminded what a huge loss to the political circus he is. I wonder why so few sitting and aspiring members can’t follow his lead.

He speaks off the cuff, he says what he means (and thinks and feels) on an enormous range of issues and is concerned with world wide issues with a scientific background of facts.

We may have pre-election saturation because there has been so little said that is true and meaningful leaving us dissatisfied with the two major parties but Bob Brown and the Greens aren’t making promises, they are urging us to pay attention and think about the policies that are being promoted.

There is much to concern us but the Greens are looking to the only future that we have and can make a difference.

This region is looking set to have another Green, Dawn Walker, in the House of Representatives in Canberra  so our part of Australia will have a  strong, united voice.

Last night’s sell-out gathering was truly inspirational and gave everyone there hope for the future.

It’s amazing how far the Green movement, founded by Dr Bob Brown has come in just 20 years!

Please Google The Bob Brown Foundation to follow other initiatives from this “Eco Warrior” (a description that he is not at all comfortable with, he says )

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Idealism is easy or as Gough Whitlam once said “only the impotent are pure”. The greens and other ideologist will grow but their will come time they’ll have to implement something. Application is difficult and always a disappointment. Remember the Democrats and the GST. The Greens Achilles-Hell” is their conflict with science. Science always win, ask the Catholic Church.
