Some spending cannot be questioned

The euphemisms were flying when Australia's Defence Minister Richard Marles announced last week that an extra $50 billion would be spent on our military over the next decade, and that $72.8 billion of already announced spending would be redirected.

It’s MardiGrass!

This year is Nimbins 32nd annual MardiGrass and you’d reckon by now ‘weed’ be left alone. The same helicopter raids, the disgusting, and completely unfair, saliva testing of drivers, and we’re still not allowed to grow our own plants. We can all access legal buds via a doctor, most of it imported from Canada, but we can’t grow our own. There’s something very wrong there.

Mandy Nolan’s Soapbox: Couching an Opinion

The Bruce Lehrmann and Brittany Higgins case was never about establishing whether or not Lehrmann raped Higgins. It was about Brittany. She was established as not ‘the perfect victim’ so we overlooked the blazingly obvious fact that Bruce Lehrmann was ‘the perfect perpetrator’. An entitled, compulsive wrecking ball of cocaine, $400 steaks, free rent and very very expensive massages.

I attended an information night on Friday evening concerning the Ski Jump facility at the Sport and Rec Complex Lake Ainsworth.

Info Night was a bit of a misnomer as the chappie from State govt, Sport and Rec, Olympic Committee I forget which one didn’t have much info other than how wonderful the plan is (a few coloured pictures). Mostly it was “I’d like you all to have a gander at this inspiring film we’ ( a few supposed Dignitaries from one or other of the aforesaid agencies ) have set up for you”.
A brief question time was allowed prior to the film but we were put off till later when hot food would be served and we could have a good old chinwag.
The film was an integral part of the Snow job. A child gymnastics kid that had done alright decided to get obsessed about ski jumping and made good. One and a half hours of jumping triumphs, disasters, self absorption , cutesy stuff the whole catastrophe. By the time it finished those that hadn’t sneaked out were bored rigid and wanted to get away from our star of the ski jump as soon as possible.
So this is public consultation, spare me.
It seems like a Baird govt splash the cash. Build something that will benefit a few and do nothing for the great unwashed, and probably do nothing for the Lake. It was confirmed that the plan was conceived a number of years ago and Council have been aware of it for a number of years.
People that have been wondering as to why Council have been so dictatorial regarding Lake Ainsworth, the Market movement, the Eastern road closure, the Dilly Dallying with so called essential works. This Ski jump fiasco , could be argued, is the Hidden Agenda behind Ballina Council’s bloody mindedness.
Those that care at all , please don’t be silent.
