Prime Minister visits Beacon in Bangalow

What a shock to see the full page advertisement in the Byron Shire Echo, announcing the realtor, Rose Wanchap, as a candidate for mayor.

How could she possibly consider running for council again after her shock betrayal of the Byron community?

Her turncoat vote turns Bryon Bay into a realtor’s dreamland. Control the council vote and create mass development at any cost.

Her advertisement for mayor does represent a level of honesty, however, when she states that ‘our shire faces a number of challenges, and our councillors need to have courage’.

Today our community is truly facing a crisis of multiple challenges thanks to Rose.

Her deciding vote for the large development at the entrance to Byron Bay will lead to hundreds of unaffordable dwellings and permanent traffic gridlock in the town, as well as enviromental and social degradation.

Looking deeper into team Rose’s ‘Middle Ground’ strategy ad, I wonder why these farmer/builders would team up with Rose?

Do they live far enough from Byron Bay that they won’t be affected by the serious challenges created from the thousands of new residents on Ewingsdale Road?

Or do these farmers also have future visions of developing their farm land into houseing estates?

This ‘middle ground’ push for mass development in the Byron Shire will degrade the Bay as a long standing iconic tourist destination.

Yes, as Rose Wanchap says, ‘our economy is on a dangerous ground’. And, our community can thank this realtor for this potential economic crisis.

Is Rose trying to steal the goose that laid the golden egg? It’s time for the community to get it back.

  1. I just had an idea … how about the ato, through federal government, reward land-owners (ie landlords whose banks’ probably actually ‘own’ their property), by giving them a huge ‘rebate’, which increases annually on the provision that the rental cost does not increase – total win/win & an actual possibility of affordable housing’, you know, for ‘renters’.
