Internationally acclaimed actor and Byron Shire resident Chris Hemsworth, together with two of his renowned Thor co-stars, has thrown his weight behind the Byron Bay International Film Festival (BBFF).

Idris Elba (Prometheus, Pacific Rim, The Jungle Book) and Tom Hiddleston (War Horse, Midnight in Paris, Avengers), join Hemsworth in endorsing the festival in the upbeat video, which he posted on Facebook and across other social media.

His video has since gone viral and within 24 hours Hemworth’s Instagram post had out-performed his others to-date.

Whilst Hemsworth was insistent that BBFF was the best film festival in the world, Hiddlestone says the Byron Bay event is ‘certainly the best film festival in Australia’.

Having a 10th anniversary made this year’s event ‘extra special’, says Elba, before the three encourage their millions of social media followers to make an effort to ‘check it out’.

Hemsworth closes the video by saying ‘see you there’.

Festival director J’aimee Skippon-Volke said she was delighted to receive the endorsement of such well-respected screen actors.

‘Their message is a sign of the global reach of the Byron Bay Film Festival. We’re passionate about creating a quality experience for our filmmakers and audience and as a result we’ve built a good reputation that’s grown through word of mouth.

‘It’s our 10th festival and we understand how important it is to evolve as an event, so as well as a goldmine of wonderful films, we are exploring the new immersive story-telling realms of virtual and augmented reality.

‘How we experience our entertainment and media will be evolving rapidly in the years to come.

‘Our region is home to a curious and creative community and we feel we’ve got the perfect bedrock to bring this, and other new technology into our annual event.’
