As if tackling criminals isn’t hard enough, a probationary police constable in Casino has allegedly been attacked by an unruly cow overnight.
The bovine brouhaha happened around 7.30pm when police were called to assist a farmer with a cow running loose on Reynolds Road, Casino.
The cranky cow had previously damaged a car after escaping from its paddock.
But when police opened a farm gate and tried to usher the cow back into its paddock, the cow charged at a probationary constable, hitting him head-on and knocking him aside.
Not content with the attack on the constable, the cow then head-butted the police vehicle before trotting off down the road.
Police pursued the cow before eventually coaxing it into another paddock.
Police reported that the probationary constable was not injured badly in the attack and was able to attend ‘udder’ jobs later that night.
Police said Richmond Valley Council would be issuing a fine to the owner of the cow, who would also be served with a compliance order to fix the sub-standard fencing surrounding the property.
