A man has appeared in court over the alleged murder of his next door neighbour in Lismore after a fight broke out between the two men on Friday afternoon.

Just before 5pm, emergency services were called to a unit block in College Street following reports of an altercation between the two men on the grass outside.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics transported a 55-year-old unconscious man to Lismore Base Hospital but he died a short time later.

A 60-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Lismore Police Station.

He was charged with murder and refused bail, and was due to appear at Lismore Bail Court today on Saturday (September3).

Investigators are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Lismore Detectives or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
