A great turn out of 22 boats at Fingal Head on Sunday saw 35 crew racing in some of the most challenging conditions the club has seen as the new season of sailing got underway.

The Tweed Valley Sailing Club’s hotly contested Summer series started under a  gentle breeze.

But just before the yachts had set themselves for the start they were blown away by a sudden squall that sent the boats flying to every corner of the river.

Not everyone got back to the start on time but there were plenty of opportunities to catch up with 180-degree sudden wind shifts catching out even the experienced skippers.

The wind dropped to nothing at times and then came screaming back in with 22 knot gusts.

All the sailors were up for the challenge and most completed the three-lap race.
