Emma Bransgrove from Alstonville High School received the Goalkeeper Encouragement Award at the NSW Combined High Schools Girls Water Polo championships.

Emma was part of the North Coast team that finished in sixth place at the eight-side event that ran for four days from Tuesday November 8 at the Alstonville Aquatic Centre.

The North Coast team was humbled by Riverina, Sydney North and Hunter, which  eventually went on to win the competition, in the opening rounds.

By day two the North Coast found some form and beat Sydney South West 12–3, but still notched up losses to North West and Sydney East.

Day three was the best for the local side that collected two wins: downing Sydney West 6–4, and South Coast 13–2.

The side couldn’t reverse the early result and went down to North West 6–2 in the playoff for fifth position in the tournament.

Sarah Bransgrove from Alstonville High was also picked to play in the selection trials for NSWCHS Allschools team that will compete in the School Sport Australia championships in May 2017 at Noosa.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
