Two peacocks stolen from Kadina High School in Lismore have been recovered but about 20 fish are still missing.
The animals were stolen between Monday night and Tuesday morning when the school was broken into.
After pursuing several lines of inquiry, a local juvenile was spoken to by police and as a result the peacocks were recovered.
Police said they were healthy and in good condition.
Anyone with information about the missing fish or who may have been involved are urged to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
