A 25-year-old Ballina man who handed himself into police on Monday following a domestic violence incident on Friday maybe should have checked his wallet before doing so.
According to Richmond Local Area Command police, the man had been involved in a violent domestic assault on Friday that required the alleged victim to be treated by ambulance officers for a gash to the head.
Police allege the 25-year-old man became involved in an argument with a family member, and threw a beer bottle at the person, narrowly missing them.
The man then allegedly picked up a television set and thrown it at the victim, striking them in the head.
He then allegedly destroyed several appliances and wall structures before leaving.
The 25-year-old handed himself into police at the Ballina station on Monday and while he was being searched in the custody room, police located illegal drugs in his wallet.
He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, destroying property and possessing a prohibited Drug.
He was bail refused by police and will appear in Ballina Local Court on Thursday.
