Having fun in the Playground

Despite major road closures around the region on the weekend, no one was arrested for traffic offences in the Tweed-Byron region. But that doesn’t mean police weren’t busy.

Rock-throwing youths sought

About 12.45am Saturday, March 18, three young males were seen throwing rocks at a shop window on The Beach Avenue South Golden Beach. The rocks damaged two large windows of the premises.

The males are described as being aged about 15 to 16 years old with one of them having blonde hair. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Apex Park drinkers lose their booze

Following community complaints, officers attached to Byron Bay made a number of patrols in Apex Park at Byron Bay during Saturday evening where a number of people were spotted drinking alcohol in the alcohol free zones.

Police warned a number of people in relation to consuming alcohol in this area, at the same time pouring the contents of their alcohol out. Police remind members of the community that your alcohol will be poured out and/or confiscated if you are detected drinking in an alcohol free zone.

Driver arrested after near miss with cyclist

About 8.20am Saturday, a 34-year-old male from Tweed Heads South was driving a white Hyundai Iload West on Dulguigan Road Kynnumboon.

Police stopped him after he allegedly nearly collided with a cyclist and subjected him to a roadside breath test that returned a positive reading.

He was taken to Murwillumbah Police Station where a breath analysis indicated a reading of 0.063. The man was charged with Driving with a low range drink driving and will appear at the Murwillumbah Local Court on April 19.

Man on outstanding warrants arrested

About 9.30pm on Saturday police arrested a 36-year-old male Tweed Heads West and charged him with outstanding warrants including failing to appear at court and having goods in custody suspected of being stolen or unlawfully obtained. He was refused Bail and will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 19 March 2017.

Man with drugs behaving oddly

About 12.50pm Saturday 18 March 2017 police were patrolling behind ‘The Hub’ Minjungbal Drive Tweed Heads South after receiving complaints from members of the public. At that location police located two males beside a Silver coloured Holden Commodore. Due to their behaviour both males and the vehicle were searched. As a result a 44 year old Tweed Heads West male received a Field Court Attendance Notice for Possessing a Prohibited Drug. He will appear in the Tweed Heads Local Court on 3 April 2017.
