A Gold Coast man is set to face Byron Bay court today after being charged with murdering his wife.
Edward Kenneth Lord, 53, was charged with murder after he was extradited from Queensland on Wednesday.
NSW police believe Lord intended to kill his wife Michelle when a car the pair were travelling in crashed into the Tweed River near Tumbulgum on October 18, 2015.
The charge comes despite Lord attempting CPR on his wife after he dragged her out of the car to the river’s bank.
Michelle died in a Gold Coast hospital two days after the accident.
Lord, who had been charged with negligent driving causing death in April last year, was arrested outside his Bonogin home on Monday evening.
An attempt to stop the extradition failed at Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday and Lord was charged with murder shortly after arriving at Tweed Heads police station in the company of NSW detectives.
He’ll appear at Byron Bay Local Court today (Thursday).
