The Brunswick Heads Women’s Bowling Club have won the Tweed Byron District Women’s Open Fours competition played at Cudgen last week over two days.

The team of Rosa Kinnear (lead), Sherril Pearce (second), Kerry Dexter (third) and Jenny Lofts (skip) had to play against many of the top players in the district.

The win means the team will travel to Woolgoolga in August to compete in the Zone games.

In their first game of the tournament the Brunswick Heads team beat Cudgen 20–12.

In the semifinal it was 15–all on the 20th end until Brunswick were able to score two, to win 17–15.

In the final on Tuesday morning Brunswick Heads beat Cabarita 27–18 to claim the championship

‘We were thrilled to win,’ Kerry said.

Play with the champions

The Brunswick Heads club is trying to get some new players and anyone curious is invited to a come-and-try day next Tuesday May 16.

‘We hope to try and get some new members by introducing women to the game of bowls by showing them that it is not about white uniform, but it is a fun game suitable for all ages. And also a chance for them to make new friends,’ Kerry said.

The morning starts at 9.30 and all people have to bring is a ‘sense of adventure and white, flat-soled shoes,’ she said.

Bowls and coaching will be provided, as well as a warm welcome. A light lunch will follow from 12pm.
