From Byron Shire to Singapore and back again – that is the story of the goose on the loose, its adventures and journey back to the loving arms of its happy young owner Hugh Bishop.

Having wondered off just before the floods Hugh and his parents had thought that their beloved goose had been lost in the flooding.

‘A friend of ours from the Byron Shire who is currently living in Singapore with her family emailed us to say she thought of us when she saw an ad in Byron Buy Swap and Sell regarding a lost goose,’ said Hugh’s Mum Nadine.

‘’What?’ I said. I emailed her back telling her my son’s second goose that we’d purchased as a companion for our first goose had wandered off about 4-5 weeks ago. I asked what the goose in the ad looked like? Sure enough it was my son’s goose.’

The lost goose is a rare French Toulouse goose that they had purchased from local goose expert Lyndsay Murray as a companion for their other goose as they like to live in groups.

‘Our Toulouse goose had survived the floods and the ad read that the goose had waddled into Tallowood Estate one night. It had made it’s way from our place in Myocum to Tallowood and had been taken in and cared for by Alison who nurtured this dear creature whilst in her care and wanted to find a suitable home for the goose as her backyard was not geared to house a goose.’

Through the buy swap and sell site Hugh and his parents were able to contact Alison and John from Cudgera who had given their goose a home and let them know they would like him back.

‘On hearing our story Alison and John were only to happy to have us pick up our pet,’ continued Nadine.

‘What wonderful community spirit we felt when hearing how at each stop our goose (who has now been called Wanda due to his wandering) made he was nurtured and cared for and those he visited only wanted the very best for him.’

  1. Not since the story of Lassie Come Home have we had a story of a boy’s love for his pet that was lost and now has been found.
Hugh Bishop’s Toulouse goose got loose and he waddled and wandered off and the goose thought he would duck in around some places and duck in and duck out of others that were not half foul and he took a gander up north to have a look at Singapore, and then came back again. Talk about birds of a feather flying the coup for up there in Singapore he could have landed in some very hot soup.
