A Lismore gynaecologist facing 60 charges of alleged sexual and indecent assault after complaints from more than 20 women was excused from appearing at Lismore Local Court this week.
Solicitor Steve Spinks represented Dr Glenn Allan Taylor on Tuesday when his matters were mentioned before Magistrate Peter Bugden.
The 61 year-old Richmond Hill resident was excused by Magistrate David Heilpern at his last appearance if he was legally represented.
In March 2016, Richmond Local Area Command detectives formed strike force Cranberry after a 21-year-old woman complained to police she was sexually assaulted during an appointment.
After uncovering evidence that at least two other women had been allegedly sexually assaulted, detectives raided Dr Taylor’s Uralba St Uralba St clinic on November 2 and seized a number of items.
Initially Dr Taylor was charged with four counts of aggravated indecent assault – victim under authority, and one count of aggravated sexual assault – victim under authority.
Following those charges being laid, police were contacted by other alleged victims and when he appeared in court on November 25 he faced 39 charges.
Since then, further alleged victims have come forward and detectives have now laid 60 charges of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault.
On Tuesday, following a brief mention, Mr Bugden adjourned Dr Taylor’s matters until June 20 at Lismore Local Court.
Dr Taylor, who remains free on conditional bail, is again excused from appearing on that occasion if legally represented.
I hope note is taken of the way this man was tried and condemned through various local groups on Facebook. Some of the comments were downright sickening, coming from people who never knew him.
