Police are appealing for information after an elderly woman was injured in a bag snatch in broad daylight in Ballina yesterday (Thursday, September 21).

The 83-year-old woman was walking on Winston Lane after leaving a supermarket in River Street at about 4pm.

Police have been told a man grabbed her handbag from behind and threatened her.

As the man continued to tug on the bag, the woman lost her grip and fell to the ground.

The woman was taken to Ballina Hospital in a stable condition. Police have been told she suffered a fractured pelvis.

The man who police believe may be able to assist in the investigation has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 170 and 180cm tall and with short blond hair.

  1. I’m so sad to hear this. I hope that bully thug gets caught and thrown into jail for a very long time. Imagine picking on a poor dear old woman. Time to install CCTV in Ballina ;(
